Sultan Selim II (1566 to 1574), eleventh sultan of the Ottoman Empire, engraved on 925 sterling silver with his turban, his embroidered kaftan and a floral border. The reverse carries the Selimiye Mosque, built during his reign by Mimar Sinan and called by the architect his masterwork, with its four slender minarets, its single dome and the sultan's tughra. Holding the memory of the conquest of Cyprus and of a skyline in Edirne unchanged for five centuries, this collectible medallion was produced with dense relief work.
Why these dimensions?
1 oz is the international standard weight for collectible medallions. Because this piece is struck at 35 mm, it is thicker than wider medallions of the same weight: approximately 3.1 mm. You feel the weight in your hand.
925 sterling means 925 parts in every thousand are pure silver. This is the international standard for jewellery and collector silver. Pure silver on its own is too soft to hold its form.
500 pieces is the total ceiling for this design. Once that number is reached, the die is retired.
Every medallion ships within 3 business days with its certificate of authenticity and presentation box.
